okay okay time for another important meta ! ! ! i don’t have all my #receipts rn , but i’m p confident abt what i can remember & again , it is crucial to my portrayal of napoléon. anyways ! sources mention napoléon could lapse in melancholic moods , especially after battles. second , in his letters to joseph ( i think it’s joseph - it’s one of his brothers in any case ) he mentions considering throwing himself before a carriage. HE ALSO TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE WITH POISON AROUND HIS ABDICATION IN 1814. this attempt failed but lmao he was in a lot of pain. implied is too that his depression was one of the factors contributing to the defeat at waterloo. lastly , napoléon at st helena was DEF depressive - i don’t have any direct sources on that but it seems p obvious to me. while i’m definitely sure this wasn’t teenage angst or relationship troubles - i’m not sure whether it was PTSD or a major depression.
