IT WAS A clear night when he heard that the emperor was moving into the camp. As aide de camp of a currently-indisposed general, the sous-lieutenant had been left to his his own devices, and, with the curiosity that often got him into trouble, he had made his way to the center of the camp, taking a step closer to the camp before he felt a hand on the back of his neck. He let out a surprised OOMPH as he was pushed into the tent, stumbling and looking at the leader of the war. He’d met more leaders than he could count. He had met CAESARS and PHARAOHS and more monarchs than he could remember, but he liked coming to face with the names of history. He straightened to his full height before offering a deep bow becoming of a military man in his position ( after all –– the wars were always fascinating; he couldn’t stay away ). “Ah. ––– Bonsoir.”

his  gray  coat   (  below ;   the colonel’s uniform of the chausseurs à cheval )    &   horizontal  bicorne   stand   out  in  simplicity  amongst  the  extravagant  outfits  of  his maréchals  ,    notably  murat.      the emperor of the canaille   -   such  is  the  way  the  english  label  him  ,    raises  a  surprised  ,    inquisitive   brow.       mind  has  already  classified  this  individual  as  aide-de-camp  of  his  maréchal  ,    a  nod  to  calm  his  peers.
